Steve Kerr Surprised By Porzingis Absence
Steve Kerr said the Warriors were caught off guard when Kristaps Porziņģis didn’t show up for training camp after summer conversations suggested things were fine. Porziņģis signed a two-year, $40 million deal this summer, but Golden State listed him out indefinitely with a health issue on Sept. 28 and later called it a “health-related matter.” Shams Charania reported Oct. 21 that the Warriors had begun exploring trades as Porziņģis seriously considers his basketball future while dealing with lingering POTS effects. Kerr said he checks in occasionally, but the coaching staff is moving ahead with Graham Ike and Charles Bassey getting more chances. Porziņģis has played 15 games for Golden State since arriving in the Feb. 4 trade from Atlanta.
