Memphis Grizzlies Lose Zach Edey For A Month
Merlin sees the Grizzlies will be without Zach Edey for about a month after a stress reaction in his ankle. His agent said "This is a management plan to optimize Zach's long term health." Edey added he had ankle soreness after games "but it didn't sound like a major thing." The 23 year old was averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks as Memphis climbed into ninth in the West. Merlin tells the high school fan that losing Edey halts a young season of growth just as Memphis won seven of nine. Backup Jock Landale will likely start and Memphis could move Jaren Jackson Jr into center with Santi Aldama at power forward. The change will shift spacing and rim protection and the team’s short term form will hinge on how quickly role players adapt and how careful staff are with Edey.
