Mason Plumlee Joins San Antonio Spurs as Victor Wembanyama Backup
The San Antonio Spurs signed veteran center Mason Plumlee to a rest-of-season deal after a prior 10-day contract in which he did not play. A 13-year pro and former Duke standout, Plumlee brings rebound and passing chops even as his scoring has faded. He likely will not see heavy minutes for a 43-16 title contender, but he provides insurance if Victor Wembanyama needs rest late in the season. Merlin senses more than depth. Plumlee’s experience and feel for the game can steady closing lineups and serve as a sounding board for Wemby. Alongside Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk and Bismack Biyombo, he gives coach Mitch Johnson roster flexibility to protect the Spurs’ star without sacrificing playoff rotation stability.
🧙♂️ Merlin’s Prediction
Odds Plumlee appears in playoff games this season: 35%.
