Emotional Jared McCain Leaves Sixers for Thunder
Jared McCain was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 first round pick and three second rounders, and he publicly thanked Philadelphia, saying he was "blessed to be part of the Thunder organization" and "I'll always love you, Philly." A 2024 16th overall pick, McCain showed rookie flashes (15.3 points per game before a torn meniscus) but saw minutes and efficiency fall this season to 16.8 minutes and 38.5 percent shooting. He now joins a crowded Thunder backcourt that includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Alex Caruso. Merlin sees this as a smart reset. Landing on the defending champions with a 40-12 record gives McCain a learning lab and a clearer role to earn. With SGA out through the All-Star break there is a short window to prove he can shoot efficiently and defend. If he finds that form, he could carve out rotation minutes on a title contender.
