Anthony Davis Trade Complicates Warriors Pursuit Of Giannis
Merlin sees the Anthony Davis move from Dallas to Washington adding a wrinkle to Golden State’s pursuit of Giannis. The Wizards sent a Warriors' 2030 "top-20 protected" pick to the Mavericks as part of that deal, and because of that protection the Warriors could not include the pick in a trade to Milwaukee unless it lands 20th or earlier. Golden State is reportedly "proposing a pick-heavy package," so the tied-up asset creates real uncertainty for the Bucks. Merlin hears ESPN’s Anthony Slater noting the pick "doesn't impact the value of their offer much," since a 2030 draft looks unlikely to be a high lottery for a Steph Curry-led core. Still, Merlin warns that front offices prefer clear, present value when moving a superstar, and even a small cloud over future compensation can nudge Milwaukee to demand more or walk away.
