"Michael Winger Takes Washington Reins as Monumental Basketball President"

The Washington Wizards have a new man in charge as Michael Winger has been appointed president of Monumental Basketball, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. Winger, the former General Manager of the Los Angeles Clippers, has been credited as "a keen strategist, dealmaker, and relationship builder" and will now oversee the NBA's Wizards, the WNBA Mystics and the G-League Go-Go.

"Winger had become the increasing focus of Monumental owner Ted Leonsis' search for a top executive," reported ESPN, adding that the new President must now contend with the task of overhauling the Wizards' roster, most notably with $200 million-plus All-Star guard Bradley Beal at the helm. "Beal holds a full no-trade clause in his contract, which means the organization would have to work with him on a landing spot should the sides eventually decide to make him available in trade talks," the report continued.

Winger arrived from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017 and leaves the Clippers with the legacy of guiding them to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in its history. With a wealth of experience in his back pocket, the NBA is now anxiously awaiting the changes Michael Winger will bring to Washington.
