"Grizzlies Suspend Ja Morant Pending League Review After Video Showing Star Guard Holding Gun Surfaces"
The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended their star guard, Ja Morant, after a video surfaced of him holding a gun while driving and singing along to a rap song. The team released a statement announcing the suspension, which is pending an NBA review. In March, Morant was suspended over a similar incident and was noted saying "what I have to lose" and that he needs to be "more responsible, more smarter and staying away from all the bad decisions".
Morant has dealt with his fair share of off-court troubles this past year, including a lawsuit over a fight at his backyard. His friend, Davonte Pack, was also banned from attending games at the FexExForum after hopping onto the floor during a game and confronting Pacers players. Most recently, a red laser was pointed from an SUV in which Morant was riding after an argument in the arena's loading dock area.
The All-Star guard averaged 26.2 points this season and has endorsement contracts with Nike and Powerade. To make matters worse for Morant, he was not voted onto the All-NBA team in April, costing him close to $39 million in future earnings. It's unclear how long this suspension will last, but the Grizzlies and league will likely take the time to investigate this further.
